The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the sum of over N4 billion for developments project and earned allowances for staff members of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Boniface Egboka said the allocated funds were part of needs assessment document produced by universities in Nigeria to the federal government.
According to the Vice Chancellor, out of the 100 billion approved by the federal government to 61 universities for renovation of hostels, building of laboratories, faculties and lecture rooms. Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka was allocated N3.050 billion and another N1.44 billion for earned allowances out of the N30 billion approved.
The vice chancellor who was so excited, said the fund will go a long way in assisting the university which has never received the initial take off grant of N500 million from the government since the university started its academic programme in 1991.
He said the reason he was making this public as relayed from the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, Pius Anyim Pius is because he believes in transparency and accountability.
He also notified the university community that the federal government has commended the University for being among the first three universities in Nigeria to have produced the needs assessment report document.
He said that Nnamdi Azikiwe University has a specialised environment and cosmopolitan entity made up of intelligent people who are blessed with specialised persons in every filed. He urged members of staff of the university to work together and champion the same cause. - DAILYPOST.
